Let's face it, our lives our busy. We often rush around from one obligation or activity to another without even taking a moment to be present in our bodies. Then, when we get home after a long day, the most common thing we do to relax is to watch TV. I am not saying that TV is inherently bad, but it doesn't give the body the same calming benefits as something like restorative yoga does. We need to give our bodies time to just rest with no stimulation.
One thing I love about restorative yoga is that it doesn't require effort. You just set yourself up in a pose and let the pose do the work. Legs up the wall is the perfect practice for when afternoon fatigue sets in, in the evening after a long day, or before going to bed. It is one of my favorite poses because it is highly effective at relaxing the nervous system, quieting the mind, easing lower back pain, helping you sleep and relieving tired leg muscles. Give it a try today and stay in the pose as long as you want! (If you are uncomfortable that is a good sign to get out of the pose. Comfort is of the utmost importance when you are trying to relax!)
